Youth and Development:

The world now has the largest generation aged 15 to 24 in history, and almost 90% of these young people live in developing countries.

Young people need support to become catalysts for poverty reduction, good governance and economic growth and to ensure that their voices are heard in a local, national and global spheres.

Investing in young people generates huge social and economic returns, making it an effective use of technical and financial development assistance.

Global Youth Work

We, at Hub Cymru Africa, believe that young people in Wales can make a significant contribution to development impact in Wales and Africa. Through mutual collaboration, linking activities and exchange of knowledge and information, young people can be leaders in local and global development movements.

We encourage the international development sector in Wales to tap into the enthusiasm and knowledge of young people through placements, volunteering and internships.

To support youth engagement within the sector in Wales, we will

  • Provide funding to youth groups in Wales linking with partners in Africa

  • Connect young people to established Wales Africa groups

  • Promote Global Youth Work and volunteerism within the sector in Wales

  • Host events to build young people’s understanding of international development.

  • Host an annual Youth International Development Conference

We have previously funded and supported these organisations engaging with young people.
